What is Fusion?

Fusion is a method of power generation that artificially recreates the fusion reactions occurring in the Sun and other stars, utilizing the energy released in the process. The process begins with an Accelerator Power Supply (APS) that generates high-voltage pulses, which drive a Gyrotron (a high-frequency heating device).

This generates extreme heat, reaching temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius, enabling light atomic nuclei to collide under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, leading to their fusion into heavier atomic nuclei.

As shown in the diagram, when the nuclei of deuterium and tritium, both isotopes of hydrogen, fuse, a nuclear fusion reaction occurs, producing helium and neutrons. This fusion reaction releases an enormous amount of energy.

Tokyo Electronics manufactures accelerator power supplies that serve as the starting point for nuclear fusion reactions.

Fusion – The Dream Energy for a Decarbonized Society

Sustainable Energy to Shape the Future

The development of sustainable energy that does not rely on depleting fossil fuels is an urgent task for humanity. The most promising candidate for next-generation energy is Fusion.

Driven by the vision of “Sringing the Sun to Earth,” researchers worldwide have dedicated themselves to its development.

Key Features of Fusion

✔ Unlike nuclear fission, it does not require uranium or plutonium.
✔ It does not produce high-level radioactive waste.
✔ The fuel, deuterium and tritium, can be extracted from seawater, making it virtually inexhaustible.
✔ The power generation process emits zero CO₂.

Fusion is a revolutionary next-generation energy source, unlike anything seen before.

At Tokyo Electronics, we contribute to the development of next-generation energy by providing accelerator power supplies that generate the high-frequency heating essential for Fusion.
